In 2005, Amy Adams gave her first Oscar-nominated performance. Three months before that, she worked at Hooters
Amy Adams spent three months working at Hooters shortly before her breakthrough performance in 2005’s *Junebug*. The job came during a period when she was struggling to find acting work and considering quitting, making her subsequent Oscar nomination a turning point in her career.
Adams said Hooters paid $7 an hour when the minimum wage was $3.85, helping her save for a car while she also worked as a dancer. *Junebug* earned her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination, the first of six nominations over the following 20 years. She is due to star opposite Ryan Gosling in *Star Wars: Starfighter*, scheduled for release on 28 May 2027.

Explained simply
Amy Adams is an American actor who spent several years looking for steady work after starting her career in theatre and small film and television roles. Before her breakthrough, she took jobs outside acting, including a short stint at the restaurant chain Hooters, while also working as a dancer.
In 2005, Adams appeared in the independent film Junebug, playing a pregnant young woman in a family drama. The role brought her first Academy Award nomination, in the supporting actress category, and helped establish her as a film actor. An Oscar nomination is recognition from the film industry’s Academy, though it does not mean the actor won the award.
