Pixar has confirmed that "The Incredibles 3", due for release on 16 June 2028, will not feature the time jump many fans were hoping for. Writer Brad Bird, who is stepping back from directing duties for this instalment, told The Direct that ageing up the family would undermine the franchise's core idea, since each character represents a distinct stage of life that would lose meaning if fast-forwarded. This keeps Pixar aligned with a franchise trait some viewers find frustrating: despite 14 years passing between the first two films' releases, the story itself barely advanced.

The original 2004 film, written and directed by Bird, was Pixar's first to centre on human characters and won the Best Animated Feature Oscar while becoming one of that year's biggest box-office hits. Its 2018 sequel picked up moments after the first film despite the huge real-world gap and went on to earn $1.2 billion worldwide, a Pixar record until Inside Out 2 overtook it in 2024. The third film, announced in 2024 and directed by Peter Sohn (Elemental), will continue that pattern of minimal time progression when it reaches cinemas in 2028.
