India’s Ringg gets backing from Peak XV as it pushes voice AI past the phone call
Indian voice AI startup Ringg has raised $10 million from Peak XV Partners as an extension of its Series A funding round, betting that businesses will increasingly turn to automated voice agents to handle customer calls. The investment reflects growing demand in India, where more than 76% of consumers say they prefer speaking to businesses over the phone, giving voice AI providers a substantial opportunity to automate support and outreach at scale.
The fresh funding brings Ringg's total Series A to $15.5 million, following an earlier $5.5 million raise this year. Originally launched as text-to-speech firm DesiVocal before pivoting to building voice agents, Ringg now processes 20 million call attempts monthly for clients including Cred, Flipkart, Practo, Groww and PolicyBazaar, and is shifting from simple, price-sensitive tasks like lead qualification towards higher-value, stickier workflows such as healthcare appointment booking, e-commerce cart recovery and fintech KYC checks. The company is also expanding beyond voice into chat and WhatsApp, and plans to partner with India-based Global Capability Centres to reach multinational clients rather than selling directly into the US, in a market that already includes rivals such as Deepgram, ElevenLabs, Cartesia, Sarvam and Smallest.ai.
