Insomniac had to ditch Spider-Man’s open-world for Marvel’s Wolverine because Logan is “not somebody who has a friendly neighborhood”

Insomniac Games has said Marvel’s Wolverine will not use the same open-world structure as its Spider-Man games, because Wolverine’s character and story do not suit a single “friendly neighbourhood” setting. The decision signals a more focused, globe-trotting approach intended to fit Logan’s loner persona and violent adventures.

Creative director Marcus Smith said the game follows Wolverine as he seeks to recover his memories, taking him through locations including Canada, Tokyo and Madripoor. Insomniac has described the story as original but informed by the comics, with mutants known but persecuted; the X-Men will not appear.

  • Wolverine will not follow Spider-Man’s open-world formula.
  • Logan’s story will span several international locations.
  • The game focuses on Wolverine rather than the X-Men.
