Inter enter talks with Tottenham over signing captain Cristian Romero

The Guardian · 2 hours ago

Internazionale have opened talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a potential move for their captain, Cristian Romero, with the Argentine centre-back's representatives holding discussions in Milan this weekend. The interest comes after Romero helped Argentina reach a second consecutive World Cup final earlier this month, and a departure would end an eventful five-year spell at Spurs for a significant transfer fee.

Romero, 27, has made 156 appearances since joining Tottenham in 2021 and was part of the side that won the Europa League last year, but endured a difficult 2025-26 season that included four separate suspensions. Spurs have already bolstered their defensive options by signing Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton for £52m and adding free agent Marcos Senesi in June under Roberto De Zerbi, paving the way for Romero's exit. Inter's sporting director, Piero Ausilio, confirmed the club's interest to Sky Italy, saying a deal was being pursued with both player and club, though he cautioned that "these things take some time."
