Sparta frontman Jim Ward has spoken about the band's new album 'Cut A Silhouette', describing it as the product of a healthier, happier period in his life following the group's return in 2018. He credits the record's focus and quality to working with producer J. Robbins, a longtime hero and now close collaborator, and to recording it in just seven days, avoiding the overthinking that can come with longer sessions.

Ward, now 49, reflects on approaching this stage of his career with clearer awareness after years of touring and making music while burned out or unwell. He explains Sparta's 2018 reformation grew from a desire to reunite with bandmate Matt Miller after a difficult experience with At The Drive-In in 2016, starting with a single show and expanding gradually through tours and eventually a new record, with the process paused by the COVID-19 pandemic. He says he continues with the band only as long as it remains enjoyable, calling that feeling essential to his outlook on making music.
