Ipswich sign midfielder Florentino from Burnley
Ipswich Town have signed Portuguese defensive midfielder Florentino Luis from relegated Burnley for an undisclosed fee, strengthening the newly promoted club's midfield options ahead of their return to the Premier League. The 26-year-old, who had also attracted interest from fellow promoted side Hull City, has committed to a five-year contract at Portman Road, giving manager Gary O'Neil a player with top-flight and European experience.
Florentino made 31 league appearances last season as Burnley suffered relegation under Scott Parker, having joined the club on loan from Benfica before an obligation-to-buy clause made the move permanent in June for a reported £20.8m. At Benfica he won Portugal's Primeira Liga twice, in 2019 and 2023 alongside Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez, plus the Portuguese League Cup in 2025, and he has represented Portugal at every youth level up to Under-21.
