Israel has opened a new exhibition, "Return to October," which uses declassified Israel Defense Forces intelligence and planning documents recovered in Gaza alongside video reconstructions to show how Hamas prepared for years before carrying out its cross-border attack on 7 October 2023. The exhibit aims to demonstrate that the assault, in which Hamas-led militants killed and abducted Israeli civilians and soldiers, was the product of long-term, deliberate planning rather than a spontaneous or opportunistic raid.

The exhibition covers roughly 600 square metres and was assembled by Israeli intelligence bodies, combining captured Hamas materials with immersive video elements to walk visitors through the timeline of the attack. It forms part of a broader Israeli effort, alongside other recent reports detailing Hamas's conduct on the day and during captivity, to document and publicise the group's actions before and during the massacre.
