ITV managing director Kevin Lygo said he remained optimistic about Sky’s proposed acquisition of the broadcaster, despite staff concerns over uncertainty and possible job effects. The deal, which still requires regulatory approval, matters because it could reshape a major UK public service broadcaster while placing ITV within Comcast-owned Sky’s larger media business.

Lygo said neither company can discuss post-merger staffing or operational plans before completion, which could take up to a year. ITV will operate separately in the meantime, with commissioning plans for 2027 and most of 2028 expected to remain unchanged; Sky would also remain bound by ITV’s public-service broadcasting licence until 2034, including commitments on news and independent production outside London. He predicted gradual, largely behind-the-scenes changes rather than ITV being dismantled.
