Japanese yakiniku chain Gyu-Kaku to close last Singapore outlet at CHIJMES on Nov 15
Gyu-Kaku will close its final Singapore restaurant, at CHIJMES, on 15 November 2026, ending the Japanese barbecue chain’s presence in the country after more than two decades. The closure follows a series of outlet shutdowns and leaves customers with a final opportunity to dine there before the restaurant closes permanently.
The chain announced the decision on 3 November but did not give a reason. Four other Singapore outlets closed in 2026: Waterway Point and Kinex in March, The Star Vista in May and VivoCity in September; UE Square, The Centrepoint and Novena Square shut in 2025. Customers can redeem unused loyalty rewards at CHIJMES until its last day of operation.
In short
- Gyu-Kaku’s last Singapore outlet closes on 15 November.
- The closure ends more than 20 years of operations in the country.
- Unused loyalty rewards can be redeemed until closing day.
Explained simply
Yakiniku is a Japanese style of dining in which customers grill bite-sized meat at a table, often using a charcoal or gas grill. Gyu-Kaku is a restaurant chain built around this format, with outlets in several countries.
In Singapore, its restaurants have operated for more than two decades, including at shopping centres and other commercial sites. CHIJMES is a former convent complex in the city centre that now houses restaurants, shops and event spaces.
The closures of its other Singapore branches over 2025 and 2026 form the background to the end of the chain’s local presence. Loyalty schemes let returning customers collect or use rewards, so outlet closures can affect how and where they redeem them.
