Jewellery designer begs to get her $50,000 shipment back from David Jones – as suppliers race to recover stock amid the department store’s collapse
David Jones has entered voluntary administration after failing to pay rent to Scentre Group, putting 6,000 jobs in doubt and leaving small suppliers worried about unpaid invoices and unsold stock. Jewellery designer Shelley Tzeegankoff says she is trying to recover a $50,000 shipment, highlighting how the department store’s financial troubles affect businesses that supplied it.
Tzeegankoff said her team had sent bulk orders before the announcement and was contacting couriers to reverse deliveries. She described the news as sad for small businesses, while stressing that protecting her company and staff was the priority. Sydney robe maker K Juliet had also launched at David Jones and placed further orders to meet store demand; much of that stock was already on its way, leaving the business with excess inventory. The retailer has 38 stores, and analyst Barry Urquhart said underperforming suburban branches may be most at risk.
