John Wayne’s Final Movie Is Officially Getting a New Streaming Release

John Wayne’s final film as a screen star, *The Shootist*, is available to stream free on Pluto TV this month. Released in 1976, the Western follows a dying gunslinger putting his affairs in order, making the film a farewell to Wayne’s career and a significant final role for one of the genre’s defining actors.

Directed by Don Siegel, the film also stars James Stewart, Lauren Bacall and a young Ron Howard. It holds a 79% Rotten Tomatoes score; Quentin Tarantino praised its value as Wayne’s farewell, while criticising the idea of making a film chiefly as a cinematic eulogy.
