Juventus have agreed a season-long loan deal to sign Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade, with the German striker set to travel to Turin for a medical. The move comes despite Newcastle paying a club-record £69m for Woltemade from Stuttgart just last August, and follows interest from several European clubs ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline. It reflects Woltemade's limited game time under new Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle, who has started him just once in his first three matches in charge.

The loan is worth £3.5m and does not include an option or obligation to make the transfer permanent. Juventus had been seeking a forward after Jonathan David left on loan to Atletico Madrid, and had also explored a deal for Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee, but preferred Woltemade for being cheaper and free of the obligation-to-buy clause United wanted. Newcastle's pursuit of Lille's Matias Fernandez-Pardo, in a deal worth up to £55m, is understood to have helped clear the way for Woltemade's departure.
