Kelani Jordan won the NXT Women's Championship for the first time, defeating champion Kendal Grey at WWE's Heatwave event on Sunday night in what was described as one of the strongest women's matches of the year. Jordan sealed the victory with a split-legged moonsault after driving Grey into the turnbuckle, ending Grey's resistance despite the champion landing an avalanche reverse Spanish Fly and a knee strike in a bid to retain her title. The win marks a breakthrough for Jordan, who had previously come close to top honours without capturing this particular title.

Jordan, who used her gymnastics background to overcome Grey's amateur wrestling style, had already held other titles during her career, including being the first NXT Women's North American Champion and a brief stint as TNA Knockouts Champion. She lost the North American title to Fallon Henley at Halloween Havoc 2024 and the TNA Knockouts title to Lei Ying Lee at NXT Gold Rush last November. This victory gives her a first reign specifically as NXT Women's Champion.
