Speaking to Attitude magazine, Kelly said she believes her mother may not know enough transgender people to "make a fair judgement" on the issue, contrasting this with her own close ties to the LGBTQ+ community, which she credits with teaching her about bravery. Sharon has previously compared gender identity to nationality on The Sage Steele Show, calling youth transitioning "insanity." Despite the disagreement, Kelly insisted her mother "gets it" in private conversations and stressed that Sharon's remarks are "not in any way against" the trans community.
