Kesha Unearths ‘Backstabber’ Music Video After 16 Years

Rolling Stone ·

Kesha has released the long-delayed music video for “Backstabber”, a song from her 2010 album *Animal*. Its arrival gives fans an official version after an unfinished cut leaked online years ago, and follows renewed interest in the track on TikTok.

The video, directed by Syndrome, brings back a gold Trans Am and a revenge-themed night out. Kesha said she had been trying to release it “this whole time” but described the delay only as a “longggg storyyyyyyy”. The song was inspired by a close friend who stole her car and spoke badly about her; it was first shared on MySpace around 2008, before her 2009 debut single “Tik Tok”.
