The inaugural LA Jazz Festival, which was set to feature John Legend, Janelle Monáe and Ezra Collective among others, has been cancelled just hours before it was due to begin. Organiser Martin Ludlow said the decision was forced by "significant, unanticipated last-minute public safety and municipal costs" tied to the venue's final permitting, rather than any issue with artist or ticket demand. The move is a blow for organisers, who had billed the event as a major new addition to LA's cultural calendar.

The festival was scheduled to open on 7 August in Leimert Park Village and run until 23 August, with a line-up also including Parliament-Funkadelic, Raphael Saadiq, Big Freedia, Free Nationals, Terrace Martin and Charlie Wilson. Ludlow said all ticket holders would be refunded in full within 30 days, and that organisers hope to stage the event "in 2027 and beyond." The festival's website is now advertising an event for 22-23 August with "updated event info coming soon."
