Labor MP Ed Husic breaks his silence after his Tesla was hit by a B-double truck in terrifying crash that left him in hospital
Labor MP Ed Husic has spoken publicly for the first time since a serious three-vehicle crash on Sydney's M7 motorway left him hospitalised with a fractured vertebra, concussion and memory loss. Husic, a former federal cabinet minister, was driving home from his electorate office on Tuesday evening when his Tesla was struck by a B-double truck and a Mazda ute; his office has confirmed he was not at fault. He has been ordered by doctors to take two weeks off work while he recovers, sidelining him from the first parliamentary sitting week since Labor's national conference.
The truck is understood to have hit the rear-right of Husic's car at around 80km/h at about 6.20pm. Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken to Westmead Hospital, from which he was discharged the following day, though he remains in pain and cannot recall the collision. Husic described ongoing upper back and neck pain being eased by physiotherapy, along with severe leg pain that has since subsided. The crash follows his prominent, unsuccessful push at Labor's Adelaide conference for the party to adopt tougher language recognising what he called a genocide in Gaza, though he says he remains committed to the party.
