An amateur cricket league has said it is concerned about the welfare of Saltburn Cricket Club members after a video alleging cheating during a match attracted worldwide attention. The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League is investigating a Saltburn player who was suspended by his club, while urging people not to prejudice any disciplinary process or ignore those affected by online scrutiny.

The footage, from Saltburn’s second XI Division Two match against Norton, appears to show fielder Brian Devine clicking his fingers to make an umpire believe a catch had been taken, resulting in a batter being given out. Saltburn has suspended the player for the foreseeable future and said he will not play again this season pending the investigation; the league said allegations of cheating are being treated with utmost seriousness and stressed the need for a fair hearing.
