Liberal podcasters apologize after laughing at joke about digging up Charlie Kirk’s body

Podcasters Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan apologised after laughing on their show at a social media post about exhuming Charlie Kirk’s body. Their remarks drew criticism from political commentators and renewed debate about how public figures discuss political opponents and gun violence.

On Thursday’s episode of Welch’s “I’ve Had It” podcast, the hosts read posts mocking Republicans after Democrats’ victories in the 2026 midterm elections, including the joke about Kirk. In an Instagram statement on Saturday, they called their laughter insensitive, said they regretted it and apologised. They also said they had donated to Everytown for Gun Safety and would continue to advocate for gun safety; during the episode, they made unsupported claims about the politics of Tyler Robinson, who is accused of killing Kirk.
