Lilly Wachowski Says Hollywood Doesn’t “Want To Make” Her Next Film ‘The Hunted’ Because Of Its “Wall-To-Wall Trans Cast”

Deadline · 2 hours ago

Lilly Wachowski says financiers are reluctant to back her next film, The Hunted, because it features an entirely transgender cast. The Matrix co-creator described the project as an important response to worsening conditions for trans people, and said she is seeking alternative ways to bring it to audiences.

The $10 million dystopian political thriller was co-written with Wachowski’s partner, Mickey Ray Mahoney, and is in development with Anarchists United and Natasha Lyonne’s Ariadne. Set in an America where trans people are marginalised and persecuted, it follows two trans women investigating a crime linked to senior government figures; its development comes as GLAAD reported no transgender characters in 225 major-distributor films released in 2025.
