A Florida mother, Kaila Nix-Schock, has welcomed a new baby boy following years of devastating loss after her two young children died whilst in the care of their grandmother. Kaila lost 16-month-old Ezra in December 2021 and seven-month-old Uriel in November 2022, with both deaths occurring whilst under the supervision of her mother, Tracey Nix. In 2025, Nix was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison for leaving Uriel unattended in a hot car, a tragedy that has become central to the family's painful history.

Ezra's death occurred when he drowned in a nearby pond whilst his grandmother slept; prosecutors determined there was insufficient evidence to establish culpable negligence and she was not charged. Uriel died after being left unattended in a locked vehicle with the windows closed on a day when temperatures reached approximately 32°C in Wauchula, Florida. Kaila's new son, Elam Gregory Schock, was born on 16 December 2025, weighing approximately 2.6 kilograms, following an emergency delivery in the back of an ambulance. The sentencing judge noted that Uriel's death was "not an isolated incident," explicitly referencing both children's deaths in Nix's care as relevant to the case.
