Mac Allister ‘sad’ at no Liverpool contract offer

BBC Sport · 2 hours ago

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has said he is "very sad" that the club has not offered him a new contract, revealing he had "options" to leave in the summer but chose to stay. The 27-year-old Argentine, who joined from Brighton in 2023, contrasted his situation with team-mates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, who both signed extensions this year, though he insisted he remains fully committed and happy for his colleagues.

Mac Allister, who has been linked with Manchester City, said he has had no direct contact with the club over the decision and stressed he does not feel he needs to prove anything, though he must "show the level" he can perform. New Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola, who replaced the sacked Arne Slot this summer, said he rates Mac Allister highly and that "there is still a lot of time" to discuss contract talks, adding that the priority is that the player wants to stay.
