Macron rebukes foreign leaders over false claims about French unrest

Daily Mail ·

Emmanuel Macron has criticised what he called “stupid comments” by foreign leaders about unrest in France, accusing some of repeating false or AI-generated claims for political purposes. His remarks followed Donald Trump’s claim that migrants, jihadists and communists were responsible for the rioting; Macron said he was referring to Trump among others.

France has seen protests over the cost of living and school conditions, with rioting and looting in several cities. Curfews were renewed in parts of Paris and central Lyon after a quieter night, while Marseille imposed a curfew for unaccompanied minors. During a Gulf tour focused on energy supplies, Macron secured an additional 100,000 tonnes of diesel per month from the United Arab Emirates, with another 100,000 tonnes to be confirmed in Bahrain.
