Poll puts Rubio ahead of DeSantis as a possible Vance running mate

Daily Mail ·

A new US poll found that Republicans and Republican-leaning independents favour Marco Rubio over Ron DeSantis as a possible 2028 running mate for JD Vance. The result suggests Rubio is currently the leading choice among those surveyed, though a substantial share have not settled on a candidate.

Among 385 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, 33 per cent chose Rubio and 13 per cent chose DeSantis; 34 per cent were unsure. Rubio’s support rose to 45 per cent among self-described MAGA supporters and 41 per cent among likely voters. When asked who Vance would actually choose, 22 per cent named Rubio, eight per cent DeSantis and 55 per cent were unsure; the survey was conducted from 2 to 5 October.

  • Rubio leads DeSantis as a potential Vance running mate.
  • A third of Republican-leaning respondents have no preferred choice.
  • Most Americans surveyed are unsure who Vance would select.

JD Vance is the US vice-president and a prominent Republican. Marco Rubio is a US senator from Florida, while Ron DeSantis is Florida’s governor; both are Republicans who have run for president.

A running mate is a candidate chosen to stand alongside someone in an election, usually as their prospective vice-president. Vance has not announced a 2028 campaign or a running-mate choice, and the poll measures the views of a limited group of Republican and Republican-leaning respondents rather than predicting what he will do.
