Mahershala Ali Put His Two Oscars Into a Cabinet: “I Felt a Sense of Accomplishment, Not Fulfillment”

Mahershala Ali said he keeps his two Oscars in a cabinet because seeing them made him feel “too accomplished” and distracted him from acting. Speaking at a London Film Festival event, he distinguished accomplishment from fulfilment, saying he now feels closer to fulfilment through his work.

Ali discussed his latest film, *Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother*, in which he plays Latif, a devout Muslim and contract killer trying to protect his three children. He described the role as a way to humanise people who are often overlooked and linked Latif’s ideas about justice to unequal treatment of Black men. Ali also said he stands by *Green Book*, while acknowledging the controversy over its historical accuracy and consultation with the family it depicts.
