Sydney man charged over injuries to protected brush turkeys in Cremorne
A 56-year-old man has been charged after several protected brush turkeys were allegedly injured with an arrow and metal ball bearings in Cremorne, on Sydney’s Lower North Shore. Police investigated reports of injured birds over a period spanning April 2025 to September 2026; the case matters because harming protected native wildlife is an offence under NSW law.
The birds were taken to a wildlife hospital but had to be euthanised because of their injuries. Police say they seized two slingshots and metal ball bearings from a Green Street home. The man faces three animal cruelty counts and two prohibited-weapon counts, and has been granted conditional bail ahead of a court appearance on 26 November. A conviction for harming a protected animal can carry a fine of up to $22,000, plus up to $2,200 for each animal.
In short
