Manchester United are poised to appoint Eva Olid, the former Hearts head coach, as their new women's team manager, with the Spaniard set to meet the squad on Wednesday as the deal is finalised. The move follows Marc Skinner's departure by mutual consent on Monday, just a month before the Women's Super League season begins, and comes as United face questions over their level of investment in the women's side after a quiet summer transfer window.

Olid, 40, left Hearts this summer having led the Scottish Women's Premier League club to their first-ever league title, finishing two points ahead of Rangers. She had joined Hearts in 2021 and later signed a contract extension, but the club confirmed in April that she would depart by mutual agreement at the end of the season; she also guided Hearts to their first domestic cup final, losing the 2024 Scottish Cup to Rangers. Skinner leaves United after five years, during which he won the Women's FA Cup in 2024 and reached the Champions League group stage for the first time, with sources indicating United sought a successor with a strong track record in player development. United open their WSL campaign away at London City Lionesses on 4 September.
