Many Blizzard devs were “skeptical” about WoW Forever until they saw the new Northshire Abbey
Blizzard’s World of Warcraft: Forever team initially faced scepticism from some developers and leadership about creating another version of the long-running MMO. Senior game designer Josh Greenfield said an updated Northshire Abbey, built to showcase the project’s new lighting and visuals, helped persuade even committed fans of the original game that the idea had promise.
WoW: Forever revisits the 2004 game with substantially improved visuals and features added beyond the original release. It will remain set in 2004 Azeroth with the original level cap of 60, while adding new dungeons and quality-of-life features; WoW: Classic, by contrast, continues to receive the expansions and updates that followed the original launch.
In short
- Northshire Abbey helped win over sceptical developers.
- WoW: Forever upgrades the 2004 game’s visuals and features.
- It keeps the original setting and level 60 cap.
