The hair and make-up team behind Apple TV’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles transformed Elle Fanning into her OnlyFans alter ego, HungryGhost, a green alien character central to the series’ more fantastical scenes. The work helped distinguish Margo’s ordinary life as a struggling young mother from the increasingly elaborate online persona she adopts to earn money.

For Margo’s everyday appearance, the team used restrained make-up and naturally textured, sometimes unwashed-looking hair to reflect her circumstances, with subtle styling references to her mother. HungryGhost’s teal body colour required more than 100 containers of cream eyeshadow, applied by hand across Fanning’s body; application could take two and a half hours and removal was similarly demanding. The character also had a deliberately homemade pink wig, supporting the idea that Margo created the look herself.
