Pamela Vander, Mark E Smith’s fiancée and final manager, has criticised The Fall’s forthcoming album ‘Post Script’ as a “cash grab” and “ethically wrong”. She argues that Smith had decided 2017’s ‘New Facts Emerge’ would be The Fall’s final album, and that releasing later-assembled material under the band’s name misrepresents his intentions.

Due for release on 2 October, ‘Post Script’ contains nine tracks built around unused vocals Smith recorded between 2001 and 2014, with Ed Blaney and Simon “Ding” Archer adding new music after his death in 2018. Blaney defended the project as a respectful tribute, saying Smith’s vocals were recorded as The Fall and that the finished album is positive; the band released 31 studio albums during Smith’s lifetime.
