Variety · 1 day ago

Paramount+ has announced that "The Varnell Hill Show," a spin-off of the classic 1990s sitcom "Martin," will premiere in September, releasing first-look images alongside the news. Tommy Davidson returns to play the title character, Varnell Hill, nearly 30 years after the original series ended, in a show that follows him navigating the pressures of running a late-night talk show amid network demands, a chaotic writers' room and his own ego.

The eight-episode first season begins with two episodes on 1 September, followed by weekly instalments every Tuesday until 13 October. The cast includes Kym Whitley, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Nick Cafero, Emmanuel Hudson and Chris Williams, with guest appearances from Ms. Pat, Deon Cole, Damon Wayans, Mike Epps, Omarion and Martin Lawrence, who also executive produces. Bentley Kyle Evans directs, writes and showruns the series, made in association with BET Studios. "Martin" originally aired on Fox from 1992 to 1997, and its main cast reunited for a BET+ special in 2022.
