Marvel has unveiled a new original graphic novel, Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare, which sends the Sorcerer Supreme into the Nightmare Realm to solve a mysterious global insomnia crisis. The book arrives via Abrams ComicArts' Marvel Arts line, adding to a recent run of high-profile adventures for the character in the comics, and comes as speculation continues over whether Doctor Strange will appear in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday.

The story is triggered by a hospital patient's ravings about a "slumbering god" whose awakening could destroy the multiverse, prompting Strange to team up with an unlikely ally. It is written by Kevin J. Anderson, with art by Raúl Allén and Patricia Martín — a team that previously collaborated on Abrams' Dune graphic novels — and the Marvel Arts line is curated by artist Alex Ross. Anderson has described the story as Lovecraft-inspired, reviving a villain unseen since Doctor Strange's 1964 debut in Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's Dr. Strange #122. Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare releases in hardcover for $25.99 on 8 September.
