Marvel Rivals devs respond to racism accusations regarding Storm: ‘We hear your passion’

NetEase Games has said it will upgrade Storm’s new Marvel Rivals swimsuit costume from Epic to Legendary following player criticism that its lower tier reflected a wider pattern of poorer treatment for Black characters. The developer said the upgrade, which will add new lobby and MVP animations at no extra cost, is intended to address concerns about this particular skin, while also condemning harassment of staff.

The costume will remain priced at $16, although the update will take time to produce. Players highlighted that other recently released swimsuit outfits received more prominent placement or higher-tier treatment, and some cited earlier in-game depictions of Blade and Moon Girl as evidence of a broader issue; NetEase said further Legendary Storm costumes are planned later this year.

  • NetEase will upgrade Storm’s swimsuit skin to Legendary for free.
  • Players linked the controversy to wider representation concerns.
  • The $16 price will remain unchanged.
