Marvel Rivals Season 9.5 update will shrink the game by up to 40GB thanks to a texture revamp from NetEase

GamesRadar+ · 3 hours ago

Marvel Rivals developer NetEase is set to significantly reduce the game's install size with the upcoming Season 9.5 update, thanks to a large-scale revamp of the game's textures. Players have long complained about the free-to-play hero shooter's substantial storage footprint, so a reduction of this scale should be a welcome change for those with limited hard drive space, particularly on consoles.

According to the report, the texture overhaul could cut the game's file size by as much as 40GB once Season 9.5 arrives. The reduction stems from NetEase optimising how textures are stored and compressed, rather than removing any content from the game, meaning players should not lose any maps, heroes or cosmetics as a result of the change.
