Marvel's Wolverine has received its official rating details from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) ahead of its PlayStation 5 launch, confirming the game will carry a mature M rating for its extreme violence. Insomniac Games' take on the clawed X-Men character leans fully into his brutal, animalistic combat style, with the ESRB description highlighting frequent dismemberment, decapitation and gore rather than a toned-down, family-friendly approach like the studio's previous Spider-Man titles.

The ESRB notes that players will slash, stab and slice enemies using melee attacks and "rage mode" finishers, with battlefields sometimes left strewn with torsos and limbs and cutscenes depicting characters being torn apart. The rating also confirms strong language, including use of "fuck" and "shit", alongside a handful of scenes briefly showing a character's bare buttocks. Marvel's Wolverine is due to launch on PS5 on 15 September.
