Matthew McConaughey’s new crime-infused neo-Western, The Rivals of Amziah King, has debuted on premium video-on-demand services after a modest cinema run. The release gives audiences a chance to see his first theatrical film since 2021’s Sing 2, while he prepares to appear in Apple TV’s Brothers alongside Woody Harrelson.

Directed by Andrew Patterson, the film follows Kateri, a young woman who escapes foster care after her mother’s death and reunites with Amziah King, her former foster parent and a beekeeper in rural Oklahoma. Despite earning an 89% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it made roughly $3 million at the box office; however, FlixPatrol reports that it is already among the most-watched films on Amazon and iTunes domestically.
