Memorial service held for veteran TV presenter Dermot Murnaghan who passed away aged 68 from prostate cancer
A memorial service has been held at St Bride’s Church in London for veteran broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan, who died aged 68 after living with prostate cancer. Colleagues and fellow presenters attended to remember a journalist whose work spanned several major British broadcasters and who used his diagnosis to raise awareness of the disease.
Murnaghan announced in 2025 that he had stage four, incurable but treatable prostate cancer, and urged men at higher risk to get checked, saying he had delayed testing because he felt well. He spent 15 years as a lead anchor on Sky News and also presented for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, including BBC Breakfast from 2002 to 2007; he began his presenting career in 1989.
