The Metropolitan Police has launched a fresh examination of Jill Dando’s unsolved murder after advances in CCTV technology enabled investigators to revisit footage of an unidentified man seen near her likely escape route. The BBC Crimewatch presenter was shot outside her Fulham home in April 1999, and the new review may help determine whether the man, known as Man X, was connected to the killing.

The footage was recorded at Putney Bridge station, about a mile from Dando’s home, roughly 20 minutes after her death. Investigators reportedly spent 10 months digitising and enhancing the original material to assess possible similarities with Milorad Ulemek, a Serbian former paramilitary commander serving a 137-year sentence for war crimes; however, police have not confirmed his involvement and say the investigation remains ongoing. Barry George, previously convicted of Dando’s murder, was cleared on appeal in 2007.
