Meta AI is getting a Mac app

The Verge · 2 hours ago

Meta has launched a dedicated Mac app for its Meta AI chatbot, announced on Wednesday, allowing users to share their screen with the assistant so it can offer suggestions, answer questions or generate content based on what's displayed. The app also supports dictation across other Mac applications. The move is part of Meta's push to reposition its chatbot as a productivity-focused assistant, putting it in more direct competition with rivals such as Google's Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude, several of which already offer desktop apps.

Alongside the Mac launch, Meta is rolling out new capabilities aimed at businesses and creators across its web, mobile and Mac apps, including direct integration with Instagram, Facebook, Meta ad campaigns and Google Workspace. Meta says the AI can analyse post performance metrics like reach, likes, shares and saves to suggest future content, as well as create documents, decks and spreadsheets and handle recurring tasks such as weekly performance reports. Unlike ChatGPT and Claude, Meta AI's desktop tool does not yet allow the assistant to take control of the computer itself.

  • Meta AI now has a dedicated Mac app with screen-sharing support.
  • New app adds dictation and Google Workspace integration.
  • Business tools let it analyse posts and draft content automatically.
