Meta adds customisable AI spaces for shopping, school and games
Meta is introducing customisable “spaces” in its Muse AI assistant, letting users create app-like tools for tasks such as shopping, school, music tracking and games. The feature turns Muse into a place to organise and interact with these tools, which users can tailor by describing what they want and asking for changes.
Users can connect a space to a relevant app so it can update details such as prices or dates in the background. Spaces can be edited, annotated and checked off, then pinned in the sidebar or main tab and scheduled to appear at chosen times. Meta is rolling the feature out to all Muse users alongside a specialised version of its Muse Wonder AI model, and is exploring shared spaces for collaboration.
In short
- Meta is rolling out customisable spaces in its Muse AI assistant.
- Spaces can update details through connections to relevant apps.
- The company is exploring sharing and collaboration features.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
Customisable AI spaces could make everyday tasks easier by bringing useful tools, schedules and updates together in one place. Letting users describe and adjust what they need may make the assistant more accessible and adaptable than fixed apps, while connections to other services could keep information current.
The case against
Turning an AI assistant into a hub for shopping, school and games may encourage users to rely on one platform for a wider range of activities, raising reasonable concerns about privacy, data access and dependence on Meta’s ecosystem. Users may also question whether AI-built tools will be accurate and reliable enough for tasks involving prices, dates or schoolwork, especially when they update in the background.
