Alden Ehrenreich has joined Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in Universal Pictures’ Miami Vice ’85, a new film inspired by the influential 1980s television drama. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the project will revisit the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami, updating the series’ style and atmosphere for a modern cinema release.

Dan Gilroy wrote the screenplay, based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich, with Eric Warren Singer having contributed an earlier draft. The IMAX film is due to begin production in 2026 and is scheduled for release on 19 May 2028; Ehrenreich reportedly chose it from more than eight offers following his Tony Award win.
