Michael Fassbender has recalled a disastrous 2015 audition for "Mad Max: Fury Road", a role that ultimately went to Tom Hardy. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor described arriving nearly an hour late after getting lost on the way to Warner Bros, leaving him rattled before he had even begun reading for the part.

Fassbender said the process only worsened once he began working with director George Miller's acting coach, describing the experience as "excruciating" and likening it to "teaching your granny how to suck eggs" given his own classical training. He said he could not wait to leave and was unsurprised he did not get the part; he instead went on to star in Aaron Sorkin's "Steve Jobs", earning another Oscar and Golden Globe nomination. The recollection resurfaces amid ongoing speculation over whether Fassbender, known for playing Magneto in the X-Men films, will appear in "Avengers: Doomsday".
