Microsoft fixes Excel 2016 paste failure after update restores bug
Microsoft has released another fix for a copy-and-paste failure in Excel 2016, after an earlier repair was undone by a later update. The problem meant users could copy content but pasting it into a workbook did not change the destination cell.
The latest build, 16.0.5574.1006, fixes the issue when a workbook contains conditional formatting. The bug returned after an Excel update delivered through Windows Update; it was not caused by the latest Windows security update. Users had reported it after the October update KB5002934, which addresses security vulnerabilities including remote code execution and information disclosure.
In short
- Excel 2016’s paste failure has returned and been fixed again.
- The latest repair is build 16.0.5574.1006.
- The failure affected workbooks containing conditional formatting.
