Middlesex through as One-Day Cup nears close finale
Middlesex have secured their place in the One-Day Cup knockout stages after beating already-eliminated Derbyshire to stay top of Group B, while Durham strengthened their own position with a home win over Essex. Group A, by contrast, was thrown into disarray on the final day of group action as the top three sides — Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Lancashire — all lost, meaning all but two of the nine teams in that section still have a chance of reaching the knockouts heading into a tense conclusion.
Kent's Daniel Bell-Drummond hit an unbeaten 133 to steer his side to a six-wicket win over Leicestershire, who had posted 261-7 thanks to Hamza Shaikh's 93. Elsewhere, Northamptonshire thrashed Somerset by seven wickets behind a 136-run stand between Luke Procter and Nathan McSweeney, Warwickshire edged out Lancashire by two wickets thanks to Vansh Jani's career-best 88, and Gloucestershire beat Nottinghamshire by four wickets despite James Bracey and Ollie Price's 153-run partnership. In Group B, Glamorgan denied Worcestershire off the final ball in Cardiff, further complicating the picture as the group stage nears its close.
