Mighty Aphrodite Pictures Behind Drama About Life & Legacy Of Slain U.S. Army Specialist Vanessa Guillén
US production company Mighty Aphrodite Pictures has secured an authorised option agreement to produce a narrative feature film about the life and legacy of Vanessa Guillén, the US Army specialist murdered at Fort Hood in 2020. Developed with the Guillén family's involvement, the drama aims to honour Guillén's life and her family's advocacy, which drove military reforms after her death sparked national outrage over the handling of sexual harassment complaints and the response to her disappearance.
Guillén reported informally being sexually harassed by a superior but did not file an official complaint for fear of retaliation before she was killed by fellow soldier Aaron David Robinson, who took his own life when confronted by police. Jorge Xolalpa, founder and CEO of Mighty Aphrodite Pictures, will direct, with Mayra Guillén and Alejandra Palomera serving as executive producers and Jolene Rodriguez co-producing; Xolalpa and Rodriguez have also agreed a three-film producing deal. The case was previously covered in Netflix's documentary "I Am Vanessa Guillen" and an ABC "20/20" episode, both released in 2020.
