Media personality Mike Rowe, founder of the skilled-trades nonprofit mikeroweWORKS and host of "Dirty Jobs", has argued that a study of American history explains why socialism is repeatedly rejected by voters in the United States. Speaking to Fox News Digital around the nation's 250th anniversary, he suggested that Americans who say they are not proud of their country may lack familiarity with its past or with how other nations function.

Responding to a Gallup poll indicating that only 53% of Americans are "very proud" of the US, Rowe said such sentiment might reflect people not being "up-to-speed" on the country's origins and evolution. He invoked the Founders, who he said signed their own "death warrant" by declaring independence in 1776 in pursuit of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness", a dream he argued became reality with the 1783 Treaty of Paris. While conceding the country is imperfect and "a work in progress", he encouraged critics to visit other countries and reconsider their worldview, and, noting recent wins by socialist politicians in New York, New Jersey and Colorado, observed that "history is a wheel" that always spins.
