Modding the Khajiit lands into Oblivion is still the cat’s meow

PC Gamer · 2 hours ago

PC Gamer revisits *Elsweyr: The Deserts of Anequina*, a fan-made expansion that adds part of the Khajiit homeland to *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion*. The article argues that the mod remains impressive because it turns lore that had largely existed in books and dialogue into a playable region, with enough character and playful detail to feel like a natural extension of the original game.

Originally published in June 2009 by modder Iliana with contributions from dozens of others, the expansion covers northern Elsweyr between Skingrad and Leyawiin. It includes deserts, badlands, savannah and jungle, alongside five towns, villages, new Khajiit sub-races, quests, player homes and hostile creatures such as giant tarantulas, aggressive Alfiq and elephants. The writer describes joining a local Thieves Guild in Corinthe and concludes that, aside from the installation process, the area is convincing enough to seem as though it could have been part of *Oblivion* itself.

  • A long-running mod adds northern Elsweyr to *Oblivion*.
  • It provides new landscapes, towns, creatures and quests.
  • PC Gamer says it still captures *Oblivion*’s distinctive spirit.
