CCTV footage captured a masked gang ambushing the woman as she took out the bins, wrestling her to the ground before forcing their way into the property. The robbers attacked both victims—spraying CS gas in the husband's eyes and attempting to remove jewellery from the wife's fingers—and fled with watches, jewellery and mobile phones in just four minutes, leaving them locked inside their home.
Three men have been sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court. Ringleader Jessie Eastwood, 34, received seven years and eight months after spending months planning the robbery and liaising with a serving prisoner. Thomas O'Sullivan, 27, received two years and five months for providing information about the property; he was an acquaintance of the victims. Christopher David, 41, received six years and nine months, with the total sentences exceeding 16 years.

In January, an elderly couple in Rochester, Kent fell victim to a violent robbery when a masked gang targeted their home. The robbers ambushed the woman outdoors, forced their way inside, and attacked both residents with CS gas and physical force as they stole jewellery, watches and mobile phones.
Robberies targeting elderly and vulnerable people in their homes are considered especially serious crimes because they inflict both material loss and physical harm on those least able to defend themselves. They also strip away the sense of security people expect in their own homes.
Police identified those responsible and brought charges against multiple members of the gang. The case proceeded through the courts, with convictions secured against those involved.
