Actress Monica Dolan is featuring in three films at the Toronto International Film Festival, most notably playing Catherine Corless in "The Lost Children of Tuam," a drama about the amateur historian who exposed that up to 796 infants and children were buried in unmarked graves at a former Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, Ireland. Produced by Liam Neeson and directed by Frank Berry, the film has already won the best Irish film award at the Galway Film Fleadh and screens at TIFF from 14 September, giving renewed prominence to one of Ireland's most harrowing mother-and-baby home scandals.

Dolan, known for Mr Bates vs the Post Office, Pride and her BAFTA-winning turn as Rosemary West, also appears in ensemble roles in John Madden's Onwards and Sideways alongside Laura Linney and Rhys Ifans, and in Simon Stone's Elsinore, starring Andrew Scott, which has already generated awards buzz following its Venice premiere. Despite having Irish parents, Dolan worked with a dialect coach to master the specific regional accent needed for the Tuam role, and told The Hollywood Reporter she relished the rare experience of leading a film after mostly taking ensemble and stage parts, including her Olivier Award-winning performance in All About Eve.
